MOTS-C

What is MOTS-C?

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is often called the "exercise mimetic" because it regulates metabolic functions and mimics the beneficial effects of physical activity. It is particularly popular for improving insulin sensitivity, promoting weight loss, and increasing exercise capacity.

Since MOTS-c is a larger peptide (24 amino acids), it has some unique handling requirements compared to others.

1. Reconstitution & Dosage
MOTS-c usually comes in 5mg or 10mg vials. Because it is prone to "gelling" (turning into a thick jelly if not handled correctly), the reconstitution process is vital.

• Reconstitution: Add 2ml of Bacteriostatic Water to a 5mg vial.
• The Concentration: This creates 2.5mg per 1ml.
• Syringe Measurement: On a standard U-100 insulin syringe:

o 20 units (0.2ml) = 500mcg
o 40 units (0.4ml) = 1mg
o Full Syringe (1.0ml) = 2.5mg

Common Research Dosages:
• Conservative: 5mg once per week.
• Standard Performance: 5mg to 10mg per week, split into two or three doses (e.g., 5mg on Monday and 5mg on Thursday).

2. The Cycle (Duration & Frequency)
MOTS-c is best used in "blasts" to reset metabolism rather than as a permanent daily supplement.

Goal Duration Frequency
Metabolic Reset 4–6 Weeks 5mg–10mg per week (Split doses)
Endurance Boost 4 Weeks 5mg twice per week
Maintenance 10 Days 5mg every 3 days (Done once a quarter)

Pro Tip: For the best results, administer MOTS-c prior to exercise. Most researchers suggest injecting 30–60 minutes before a workout to capitalize on the metabolic pathways it activates.

3. The "Gelling" Warning (Crucial)
MOTS-c is very sensitive. To prevent it from clumping or gelling:
1. Do NOT squirt water directly onto the powder. Aim the needle at the side of the glass.
2. Let it sit. Do not shake or swirl immediately. Let the water soak into the powder for 5–10 minutes.
3. Use more water if needed. if it looks thick, add an extra 1ml of Bac Water to thin it out (and adjust your math accordingly).

4. Storage & Stability
• Extreme Sensitivity: MOTS-c degrades faster than most peptides. It must stay in the fridge.
• Shelf Life: Even in the fridge, MOTS-c is best used within 14–21 days of mixing. If you have 10mg vials but only use 5mg a week, the 5mg vials are a safer choice for potency.

5. Potential Side Effects
• Injection Site Redness: MOTS-c is a "large" molecule and can cause a temporary red bump or itch at the site.
• Increased Body Heat: You may feel like your "furnace" is turned up, especially during exercise.
• Hypoglycemia-like symptoms: Because it improves insulin sensitivity, taking it on an empty stomach and then doing intense cardio can occasionally cause a blood sugar dip. Keep a fast-acting carb (like a glucose gel) nearby for your first few sessions.
