Matrixyl
What is Matrixyl?
Matrixyl acts as a high-tech "messenger" that tricks your skin into thinking its collagen has broken down, effectively triggering a natural repair response to build fresh new proteins. By strengthening the skin’s underlying structure from the inside out, it significantly reduces the depth of fine lines and wrinkles while restoring youthful elasticity. Unlike harsher anti-aging ingredients like Retinol, it delivers these firming results without causing redness, peeling, or irritation, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.
Reconstituting lyophilized (freeze-dried) Matrixyl is a precise process. Because peptides are fragile, "reconstituting" them simply means adding a liquid (solvent) back to the powder to turn it into a usable serum.
Here is the professional way to do it to ensure the peptides don't break down.
To reconstitute 10mg of Matrixyl in a 3ml vial, you are essentially creating a high-potency "stock solution." Because you only have 3ml of space, you will be making a concentrate that is much stronger than what you find in a store-bought serum.
The Math: Concentration Options
Since your vial is 3ml, you can safely add 1ml to 2.5ml of solvent (Bacteriostatic Water is the gold standard). See Main Image for concentration amounts.
Note on "10% Matrixyl" Products: Commercial products (like those from The Ordinary) that claim "10% Matrixyl" are actually using a 10% concentration of a pre-diluted solution provided by the manufacturer. The actual pure peptide in those products is usually around 0.001% to 0.01%. By mixing 10mg into 2ml of water, your solution will be roughly 50 to 100 times stronger than a standard commercial serum.

3. Proper Storage & Life Span
Once Matrixyl is turned into a liquid, the "clock" starts ticking.
• Refrigeration: You must store the reconstituted serum in the refrigerator (2 - 8 degrees C).
• Shelf Life: In liquid form, it is typically stable for 4 to 8 weeks. After that, the peptides begin to lose their "signaling" power.
• Light: Keep the vial in a dark place or wrap it in foil, as UV light breaks down peptide bonds.
4. How to Apply
Once mixed, treat it like any other serum:
• Apply 2–3 drops to clean, damp skin.
• Focus on "expression areas" (forehead, crow's feet, smile lines).
• Follow with a moisturizer to seal it in.
How to Use This Concentrate
Since this 2ml solution is very powerful, do not apply it directly to your face in large amounts. You have two best options:
• Option A (The Booster): Add 2–3 drops of your new Matrixyl liquid to your hand, mix it with your regular moisturizer or a Hyaluronic Acid serum, and apply.
• Option B (The Full Serum): If you have an empty 30ml (1 oz) serum bottle, fill it with a base (like Hyaluronic Acid) and add your entire 2ml reconstituted vial to it. This will give you a "professional-strength" serum (approx. $0.03\%$ pure peptide) which is still more potent than most store brands.
Shelf Life: Use your reconstituted vial within 30 days for maximum results. If the liquid becomes cloudy, discard it.
